ADULT EDUCATION - FAITH FORMATION
The mission of the St. Matthew Adult Education and Faith Formation Program is to provide a Christ centered program that offers the environment and resources for God to work through people. We follow the direction of Vatican II set forth for our Church, which is rooted in Sacred Scripture and grounded in the concepts of peace, justice and human dignity, and our own Mission Statement. Our hope is that the programs will help educate people to become committed to living the Gospel through Liturgical celebrations, prayer, healing, hospitality and social action.

We started building the 9th St. Matthew sponsored Habitat House on January 29th. Everything is going well and there's still a lot that needs to be done. Volunteers are always needed so if you have some time to spare, we would love to have you.
Please pray for our Habitat Homeowners Sandra Tinajero and Uriel Molina and their children Jose Angel (9), Martha (8), Alexandra (6), and Uriel (1), the safety of the volunteers, and the success of the build.

YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
Middle School, High School & College Ministry
On Mother’s Day, an extra special day for the Teen of the Month program, the May award went to twins, Angela and Christina Muller, second and third oldest of eight children of Michael and Linda Muller. The girls are graduating eight graders of St. Matthew School and current nominees for the national junior honor society. Both girls are very active in our school, parish and community. In school, the girls can be found singing in the choir, helping at the Halloween Carnival, serving at the school masses, forming a neighborhood food drive, and participating in the jogging for Josh Run.
In our parish, the girls are very active in the T.A.G. Middle School Youth Group and help stuff Christmas stockings for El Carmen, make Easter baskets for St. Vincent de Paul, help in the Parish Festival, Ministry Fair, Breakfast With Santa, performing in God's Cast, singing for the senior center, help raise funds for the Super Bowl of Caring, fill the bus and God's Army. The girls also serve on the Youth Group Leadership Committee, are members of the T.A.G. Core Group, are Altar Servers, volunteer at Vacation Bible School and recently made over forty five handmade rosaries for the parish's past Family Retreat.
In the community, the two can be found at the Dwyer Avenue Shelter helping prepare food and serve food or at the food bank assisting in sorting and stocking. If you see the girls with short hair this summer, it is because they have been donating their hair to the locks of love program since they were in the fourth grade. Their hobbies include swimming, badminton, archery, piano and singing. They plan to attend Antonian High School in the fall.
Msgr. Yarbrough presented the checks and certificates on behalf of the Holy Name Society, Men's Club. The Holy Name Society, Men's Club invites all men of faith to join. For more information, contact Roy wonder, 492 5747.

Youth Ministry Upcoming Events
The High School Religious Education program is in need of catechists (teachers) for school year 2010-2011. We are in need of at least 2 more confirmation teachers. We are also looking for substitute teachers and people who can help Michelle on Sundays. We provide all the materials you need to share your gift. What does a catechist do? Catechists share the teachings of Jesus Christ, but also help our Youth to become the type of people the Lord intended them to be by helping them to learn more about their faith and deepening relationship with God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The rewards are numerous and a deep satisfaction is gained from nurturing these young people in their journey of faith. Classes will begin September 12th. Interested people can contact Michelle Weekley at 478-5011. Thank you for prayerfully considering being a part of this very important ministry.
September 12th – All High School Religious Education Classes start (to include RCIA and Confirmation).
September 22nd – 40 Days of Life begins – This is a focused pro-life campaign that has generated measurable lifesaving results in more than 130 cities where it has been implemented. Some locations have reported as much as a 28% drop in local abortion numbers and hundreds of new people getting involved in local life saving ministry efforts. During this time, our community will be uniting with dozens of other cities across America – and around the world – for the largest and longest coordinated pro-life mobilization in history – the 40 Days of Life Campaign. People of faith are praying that this effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion. Join us! We will be saying the Rosary every Sunday by the Right to Life Monument by the Parish Hall after the 11 AM Mass from September 26th to October 31st.
Youth Ministry will be hosting a Pro-Life Lock-in September 25 & 26 at the Vance Jackson House (11039 Vance Jackson) starting at 6:00 p.m. This is a Lock-in for the 40 Days of Life observance, open to all High School Students. We will take this opportunity to learn more about Pro-Life issues, not just abortion alone, through activities, movies and discussions. We will end the retreat by going to the 11:15 Mass and saying the rosary at the Right to Life Monument.
Registration forms can be picked up at the Administration Building or downloaded by clicking here.
Deadline to sign up will be September 22nd. This is a FREE event. Call Michelle Weekley at 478-5011 for more information and to register.
