GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. Boys wear clean shoes and dark slacks. No shorts. Clean tennis shoes are okay.

 

2. Girls wear white or black shoes. Skirts allowed. Clean tennis shoes are okay.

 

3. The sanctuary, which includes the ambo, the chair and the altar, is a place for reverence and worship. It is not a time for games or foolishness. You are serving in a privileged position. It is not a right!

 

4. Hands held in prayer position when standing, on lap when sitting.

 

5. Bow when leaving a priest or deacon after doing a task.

 

6. When kneeling, uncover shoes above alb to prevent tripping or difficulty in standing up.

 

7. Before the Liturgy starts:

 

a. Arrive 10-15 minutes ahead of time. Put a check by your name or write in the name of the person you are substituting for on sheet. You MUST sign in to be credited with serving. We will be checking the list for no-shows.

 

b. Follow other instructions listed below, depending on what Altar Server position you have.

 

c. If not scheduled to serve, go back and check if you’re needed. Scheduled Altar Server has the right to serve if they’re by 10 minutes prior to Liturgy. Otherwise substitute serves.
